Welcome Fall Pumpkin Sign

This is a fun home decor project to welcome Fall. I love this time of year, summer is but a memory, time to put away the flip flops and wear warm, cozy boots. A time for sweaters, scarves, and apple cider, the crisp air, and beautiful colors of falling leaves. It’s a slower pace to set the stage for the whirlwind of the upcoming holiday season. It’s of course almost a 100 degrees where I am, so I might just crank up the air conditioning, put a scarf on, and pretend fall weather has arrived already.

Items needed: A wooden hanging pumpkin shape (I purchased mine at Target), cricut maker, knife blade, fine point blade, 1 sheet each from cricut felt sky sampler: light yellow, plum, red, brown, two sheets of cricut 2mm heavy chipboard, cricut premium permanent vinyl in black, one sheet of transfer tape, a purple strong grip mat, green mat, masking tape or other low tack tape, hot glue, and liquid glue, (for this project I used a purchased font called Andalusia, but you could use any font you wish).

When starting this project, you need 24 hours to acclimate the 2mm heavy chipboard, this is an important step, the chipboard can be slightly damp and will tear and catch on the blade, which can ruin your project. Remove it from the packaging and place all sheets under something heavy to prevent it from warping while it drys out.

When chipboard is ready, prep by placing in the top left hand corner and the strong grip purple mat and secure all four sides with tape, then set aside. Click make and use green standard mat and place the first color felt on mat and cut. Continue with prompts to cut all materials.

Using liquid glue, adhere both pieces of chipboard words together, place something heavy on top and let dry.  Tightly roll flowers starting with end that doesn’t have the circle, this is the base of your flower. As you roll the flower try to alternate the placement of the petals without getting to loose, this will give a more natural look to the flower. Once you reach the end, place hot glue on the inside of the base of the flower and adhere the circle, this secures the flower from unrolling, repeat this process for the other flower. Layer the leaves like a fan and hot glue to pumpkin base, then hot glue a flower on top.

Cut vinyl, weed excess, and pick up with transfer tape and flip over. Carefully line up the chipboard words to the sticky side of the vinyl and press down onto the vinyl. Flip right side up and burnish well with a scraper tool or a brayer to secure to vinyl. Start on one side and remove the transfer tape by folding it back towards you and rocking the transfer tape side to side while pressing the vinyl into the chipboard. Once the transfer tape is removed hot glue the chipboard words to the pumpkin base and your sign is ready to hang up.
