Foil Quill details

The kit I purchased was from HSN, it came with everything you need to get started.  It has four adapters for the current machines on the market. The Cricut (C), Silhouette (A), Brother( B), and Sizzix (D). Each adapter screws onto the foil quill to properly fit each of the machines.

Important details

A couple things to keep in mind, when using the foil quill unless you are using the cricut maker you will need a portable charger to heat your foil quill. The Cricut maker has a usb charging port integrated into the machine.

I’ve always loved the idea of foiling, it’s easy to do with beautiful results. To use the foil traditionally it required reactive toner, and your choices have been to buy another printer or go to a print shop to have it printed. The later I found to be impractical and time consuming, and I certainly didn’t want to buy another printer.  This is why I love this product so much, the start up cost to use it is low considering the alternatives.

To use traditional foiling it requires a laser printer, and a laminating machine. I love that this system take up so little space, but yet works beautifully. There are designs available for a separate purchase, but you can use any design by changing it to write instead of cut.

Foiling possibilites

Intricate designs, bold designs, writing for invitations or cards. The possibilities are endless, and there are different materials this would work on besides paper. Some materials besides paper would be faux leather,  vinyl, and chipboard.

This product is so easy to use, just remove the pen adapter from port A on the Cricut Maker machine and screw on adapter C to the foil quill. Then just insert into port A and secure, plug in the usb adapter to the port on the side of the Cricut Maker.

I love that as long as I can write something I can make it with the Foil Quill. The thin one is my favorite so far, it’s so precise and the lines are so clean. I find that this is something I will use often, and the foil colors available are so pretty.

Conclusions

I did have a couple of concerns prior to using this product, the cord on the usb port and the fact that the foil quill is a heating element. I just draped the cord around the back of the lid on the Cricut Maker, it has enough slack to work, but not enough to get caught in the machine. The heating element does get warm, but it’s not super hot. I find that using the small plate is great mine hasn’t been warm at all, but I do unplug it immediately after use. So far I’ve only used it on small projects, due to the foil coming in a smaller size. *Be aware that using a non Cricut product in your machine, such as this does void your warranty.* That’s pretty much with anything because it wasn’t made or tested by the company so the outcome from use is unpredictable.

I like the product and I love the idea of using this, it doesn’t take up much space, and there’s no other equipment to buy. It’s fun to make foiled embellishments with your machine that is compatible with this product.

I was not paid for this review, I purchased the product and my opinions are my own.
