Cricut Mountain Make-a-thon 2018

I was so excited for this event, it was 2 1/2 days July 30th-August 1st in Salt Lake City, Utah at the Little America hotel,  it was jam packed of fun, and learning. This event included breakfast and lunch on all days, and supplies included for classes with a swag bag, a parting gift, products for classes, and other gifts from sponsors Joann and Michaels Stores that was worth about $400 dollars. For the first time there was a Cricut pop up store where you could shop to take items home with you, or have large items shipped, it was set up so perfectly, complete with sample made items to look at.

There are so many classes, with different tracks to take. There were different tracks to choose from: paper, iron on, sewing, and design space. Classes were taught by so many people including: Anna Griffin, Lia Griffith, Beth Kingston, and guest Erica Domesek.

The evening prior to the first day of the event was registration where you checked in, you received your name tag, and a tote bag stuffed full of goodies. There were so many items inside, collector pins, patterned iron on, mats, paper, pens, a rotary cutter, a pack of paper, the brand new vinyl, and so much more.  It was such a surprise to receive this bag of goodies to kick off the event, I was amazed at all the things inside, it was a very generous swag bag.

The first day there was an optional early morning walk followed by breakfast, in a beautiful ballroom that had elements designed by employees from Cricut. There were faux room displays around the room in different themes, all created with many cricut projects. There was a wine and cheese party display, a toddler’s bedroom, an outdoor party theme, and a closet. All of these were beautifully decorated to show just how many things that you could create with the cricut machine.  The theme this year was Be Amazing, and it truly was, we were inspired to be amazing, but the event itself was amazing. We were given a cup to decorate with a pre made design for our first project to start the event. Everyday there was a morning meeting and then break for classes, on the last day there was a meeting at the end to complete the event. The first day of the event it was announced that there were three new easypress 2 machines in a lovely raspberry color. The sizes are 6×7, 9×9, and12x10, with many new features and will be available sometime in the fall. I will have a review and all the details in another post.

Every morning there was a lovely full breakfast with an array of muffins, pastries, fruit, cereal, potatoes, bacon, sausage and eggs. Lunch had a wonderful variety of foods for everyone, even vegetarian and some gluten free items were offered for both meals.  Even the food was presented beautifully, with the beautiful gold colored carafe water containers, the coffee station, and the dessert table, it just made the experience at the event even more special.

The classes were really nice, after check in, each table had a project kit waiting for each person. On each table there were two maker machines, an easypress (if needed for the class), sewing machines, (for sewing classes), and all other supplies, scissors, adhesives, etc.  Anything needed for the class was readily available, all you had to do was connect your device to cut and you were ready to make the project for the class.

The variety of classes made it hard to choose classes (I wanted to take them all), but there was something for everyone, whether you were new to cricut or not. Everyone had the opportunity to learn something new no matter your skill level.  One class in the track for people who wanted to start a business or improve their business was my favorite called Styling your Project the class taught how to take better photos. There were different stations that focused on different styles of photo taking to maximize your light and composition. I learned so many things in this class, and it was fun too.

Everyday you had the evening free to explore Salt Lake or just relax. The event concluded with a last meeting to wrap up and were given some behind the scenes of the faux rooms, and giveaways. As we left the ballroom we were given one last amazing gift which included: a bright pad, a 12×12 self healing mat, a true control blade, the new ruler, and a pack of pens. It was an amazing event I look forward to if there is one next year, it was an experience of a lifetime. I met so many people, learned new techniques, and had so much fun.
